On May 15, 2024, the XV International Economic Forum “Russia – the Islamic World: KazanForum” and the annual meeting of the Strategic Vision Group “Russia – the Islamic World” took place in Kazan. The event was also attended by the Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. That is, without the slightest embarrassment in front of external representatives, the father himself conducts negotiations instead of the current head of state. Instead of Serdar Berdimuhamedov, he discusses pressing economic issues and makes decisions on his own – which is complete nonsense.
For example, according to the state news agency TDH, Berdymukhamedov Sr. participated in negotiations, during which successful joint work in the oil and gas industry, shipbuilding, chemical industry, and in the supply of aviation equipment and trucks was noted. In addition, according to the press service of the head of Tatarstan, Kazan is interested in cooperation in the areas of oil exploration and production, gas transportation, automobile, aircraft and shipbuilding, energy, supply of chemical products, pharmaceuticals and medicine, agro-industrial complex and others. All these pressing issues relating to foreign policy are discussed not by the current president of Turkmenistan, but by the former! How is this possible?
The situation with the governance of the country is so egregious and incomprehensible to many that it raises many questions among the civilized world regarding the democracy of the past elections. The Turkmen oppositionist, leader of the popular movement “Democratic Choice of Turkmenistan” DVT Murad Kurbanov most successfully commented on his position:
“A unique situation has developed in Turkmenistan, where officially, according to the Constitution, there is one leader – the president, but in reality there are two. It seems that the son is brought into power to protect the chair, and the other is the shadow president for work. So who rules Turkmenistan? Which Berdimuhamedov is actually the president? Only a person who does not trust even his son to govern the country can humiliate his son the President in this way, showing his worthlessness and incompetence in foreign policy in front of the leaders of various states. This shows the fictitiousness and falsity of the past elections, where falsification was used on an unprecedented scale. Gurbanguly completely destroyed the state system and turned government into a family contract,” said DVT opposition leader Murad Kurbanov.
